The Clerk of Court’s office is responsible for the Commissioners that work the polling precincts. In order to become certified as an election commissioner, you must attend a school conducted by the Clerk of Court and successfully complete a written exam.
Other qualifications are:
- You must be a registered voter of Washington Parish
- You must be able to vote without assistance
- You must not be a candidate of the election
- You must not have been convicted of any election offense
Payment for a commissioner in charge is $250.00 and for a commissioner is $200.00
The clerk’s office holds a new commissioner school twice a year. A commissioner in charge school is held once a year in late November. At the end of four year term of Clerk of Court, everyone must be re-certified.
